The English Department revamped the Interhouse competition for the school’s anniversary week into an amazing 3-part competition, including singing, acting, and designing. Students and teachers alike were captivated by the show that took place on Thursday, October 6th in the school’s gymnasium. Hosting the competition was Nate Sprague, who kept the houses riled up and cheering for the entirety of the event.
Starting the event off was the design competition, where students created incredibly original costumes based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. What was the catch? They could only use recycled materials! The different teams utilized materials like trash bags, newspaper, bottle caps, grocery bags, scrap fabric, and paint. Then, two students explained the design process and materials on stage in a true professional fashion. We extend our congratulations to St. Margaret’s students Sofía Weinzieri, Josefina Gómez de Segura, María Jesus Perry, Catalina López, Paula Santorsola, Fiorella Gandolfo, Mariana Perez, and Pascale Hormann for their hard work and collaboration with our students in design!
Next up was theatre, where the best actors from each house performed a scene from the famous Peter Pan. After rehearsing all day, the actors took the audience on a trip to Neverland, where Wendy was fascinated by the idea of never growing up, John fell in love with Tiger Lilly, Captain Hook and Smee searched for the kids, and more! The students were responsible for their own costumes, and the scenes truly came to life. A big shout-out to Isabella Maggini, Valentina Suez, Florencia Pizarro, Javiera Bianchetti, Angelina Chiappini, Valentina Godoy, Constanza Larrondo, and Catalina Miranda for their captivating performances!
Last, but not least, were the Disney Duets. The songs being performed were: Let it Go (Frozen), I Saw the Light (Tangled), Once Upon a Dream (Beauty and the Beast), and A Whole New World (Aladdin). Thankfully, our students were fortunate enough to sing with the truly talented young ladies from St. Margaret’s! Congratulations to Carolina Castillo, Josefina Molinet, Josefina Zapata, and Isabella Lopez on their amazing enactments of these Disney songs!
The judges had their work cut out for them with so much talent. In the end, first place was awarded to Somerscales, while Sutherland, Robertson, and Mackay received 2nd, 3rd and 4th places, respectively.
Many thanks to our guest judges Jennifer Daniels, Maria de los Angeles Rojas, and Sofia Howard for judging the event.
