A showcase of The Mackay School students' talents

ABS Debate at Redland

We would like to congratulate students from 2nd medio Vicente Carmona, Carlos Oyarce, and Diego Guerra on their participation in the ABS Debate at Redland School. The encounter took place on Friday, October 9th at Redland School in Las Condes, Santiago. The participants came from various schools in Santiago and Viña del Mar, including: Bradford, Saint Gabriel’s, The Grange, Wenlock, Redland, The Mayflower, Saint Paul’s, Saint Peter’s, Saint Margaret’s, and The Mackay School.

Interestingly, this debate isn’t as competitive as other events throughout the year. Teams were made up of students from all different schools, giving them the opportunity to meet and work with new people. Four different motions were debated throughout the morning and afternoon; the teachers that accompanied the students to the school also partook in the event as judges, giving constructive criticism to the participants. The level of spoken English was extremely high among these students, and at the end of the day, there weren’t any first, second, or third place prizes.

Many thanks to Redland School for hosting such a great event for students and teachers alike, and for giving our students the unique opportunity to debate with people they wouldn’t have otherwise met!
