Mackay Third Medio student Joaquín Oporto recently attended the finals of the English Speaking Union Chile’s writing competition. He was there with ten other students representing schools from all over the country. In September, students had to complete an additional impromptu writing task.
The students enjoyed a cocktail and closing ceremony in the beautiful gardens of el Museo Domínico Patrimonial de Recoleta. First prize was won by a student from Dunalastair School, a fellow member of the Association of British School’s in Chile.
During the ceremony, Joaquín was awarded a diploma for making the finals and participating in the event. He even met the British ambassador in Chile, Jon Benjamin. Mr. Benjamin approached him, and they had their photograph taken as he was the only student who attended the event wearing his school uniform.
In August, Joaquín wrote a very solid essay on social media and its effects on interpersonal relationships and sent it to the ESU, earning himself a spot in the finals. Congratulations for this achievement!!
