On Wednesday, September 4, we were witnesses to one of the most attractive performances to take place at The Mackay School.
A foggy stage, amazing special effects, fancy period costumes and a beautiful live music arrangement orchestrated by 3M students Francisco Sobarzo and Fernando Mohor, gave life to one of the most beloved and well-known musicals of all time:Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “The Phantom of the Opera”. Students and teachers had the one-in-a-life-time opportunity to attend.
Her Majesty’s Theatre in London while on the Europe Tour this year. Such was the delight of watching this brilliant musical, that students and English teacher Mr Alfredo Calderón decided to play an extract as a homage to this wonderfulwork of Theatre Arts. Ms Alejandra Campillay gave voice to the beautiful Christine Dáee, while Jorge Hagedorn was the face and voice of Erick, The Phantom. Among other members of the cast, Benjamín Ugarte played Raoul, Vicomte de Chagny; and Vicente Gómez and Benjamín Miranda played as the owners of the Paris Opera House, Andreé and Firmin. Student Martín Macchiavello provided our audience with the context and background of the story. A standing ovation from parents was the result of the performance.
Our version of “The Phantom of the Opera” served as a closure to the Europe Evening Event, which gave account of 3M students and teachers’ experience while on the 2013 Europe Tour.
