Mackay students Mingi Park, Kei Sone and Rodrigo Yañez all spoke in the second debate of the UNAB English Debate competition on Saturday May 18th. Mackay School Debate Team member Sebastain Barriga was also present at the event supporting his team.
The motion for the debate was “This house believes that private schools should give a minimum number of scholarships to students who have limited resources.” The Mackay team was side opposition. The debate was very entertaining, having strong arguments and great speakers from both sides. And after a very difficult decision by the judges, the Lincoln Academy International School just barely came out on top.
The Mackay team’s performance has greatly improved in just two debates at the UNAB Interescolares 2013 contest. And with the third and final debate of the round robin coming this Saturday May 25th, Mackay looks to improve on their first two performances and hopefully get a win, which could secure them a place in the play-offs round June 1st.
