Welcome to a new year of excitement in the theatrical arts! The Mackay School Drama Club has been created to enhance students’ abilities when on stage, enabling them to perform in front of the most varied audiences.
This year, students from Years 5, 6, 7, 8 and 12 have joined our Club and we are very excited to have them all participating and enjoying our activities!
As an extension of the English Department Programme 2012, students from 7th and 12th Grades were given the chance to become members of the English Drama Club. The project was developed by Drama coordinators Mr Alfredo Calderón and Ms Carolina Pizarro, and supervised by our Head of Department, Ms Carla Chávez. We were able to succesfully put two plays on stage: In May, we presented an abridged version of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol”, the story about a stingy and grumpy, old man who redeems himself after being visited by three spirits during Christmas Holidays; In December, we were proud to present our own version of J. K. Rowling’s modern classic “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. We worked together with three students from St. Margaret’s School, who gladly accepted our invitation to join our Club. The young actors and actresses, who shared the stage with three teachers from the English Department, portrayed the story of the young orphan who discovers he has got magical powers and is destined to attend the most prestigious School of Witchraft and Wizardry in the world. We want to thank all the members of our 2012 club for their participation: Juan Cristóbal Manríquez, Ari Perrot, Felipe Fuentes, Max Gallardo, Nicolás Valencia, Carlos Oyarce, Diego Pertuzé, José Tomás Leyton, Vicente Gándara, Vicente Jander, Rodrigo Sifón, José Tomás Lecourant, and St Margaret’s students M° Belén Azócar, Catalina Acuña, and Josefa Duarte. Great job and congrats to you all!
In 2013, we will carry out two projects: In June, we will be presenting an adapted version of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring”, and in December, we will launch our own “Toy Story”!
We hope you will enjoy our performances when the time comes!
